The Monday evening Presbyterian Church Ballroom Group emphasizes health and friendship – Tonight we reviewed our Open Cuban Walk from Rumba and added a new step – the Sugarfoot from Jitterbug
Tonight we got some fun, light exercise by learning and reviewing a couple of useful social dance figures. Attendance was up with dancers returning from vacations and their other obligations.
Tonight we reviewed our Open Cuban Walk from Rumba and added a new step – the Sugarfoot from Jitterbug. During the last few weeks we have put some time into the Open Cuban Walk and for this class we got down to the details, like a follow through with the Cross Body Lead and some pretty arm styling for the ladies. All in all a successful class with the group showing lots of progress with this series of patterns. We danced the step to Sade’s ‘Smooth Operator’, changing partners frequently.
With half of class time to go we switched gears and got into the Sugarfoot, beginning with the Swing Throw Out. I explained the design of the Sugarfoot and also showed the class another version of this figure called the ‘Big Mama’. We took some time to master the lead and follow and before long we all had a nice new pattern. I reminded the group class that we have an event scheduled for the weekend and we have a lot of commitments for the party – it will be a blast.
I wanna learn how to Jitterbug and Rumba too –
